dorcas asumin - trainee therapist
“My time at The Creators House as a trainee therapist has been nothing short of phenomenal. As someone starting out with zero client hours, the level of support I received truly transformed the trajectory of my journey into the field.
From the very beginning, the Therapist's coordinator was incredibly supportive, the regular wellbeing check-ins, access to high-quality supervision, and ongoing training opportunities were invaluable, especially in a space where such provisions are often rare or inaccessible. I started off feeling slightly anxious about assessments, but I was gradually eased into the process. The coordinator initially took the lead and assigned me low-risk clients, which allowed me to build confidence before transitioning to work with higher-risk presentations and even completing my own assessments. I was able to complete my 100 hours solely at one placement because they have a lot of clients waiting for support and I found a high degree of commitment and consistency due to the client base.
One of the most unique aspects of my experience was the physical space. I was provided with a beautiful, comfortable studio equipped with all the necessary facilities, including creative materials that encouraged me to incorporate more expressive and creative tools in my sessions.
Above all, I felt genuinely held and nurtured throughout the placement. I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the 18–25 cohort, and because of this incredible experience, I’ve chosen to continue my journey at The Creators House..”
We organise recruitment drives at various times throughout the year, depending on the extent of our waiting list. If you're interested, please send your CV and cover letter to therapy@creators-house.org and we will follow up with details on the next steps.
