Joshua James launches his menswear brand through the support of Creators House

Joshua James has creativity in his blood. He started his fashion design journey at just 7 years old, when his aunty bought him his first sewing machine. Not just that, but he also started his acting career at 7 years old and went on to feature in multiple west-end shows, including The Bodyguard the Musical. Joshua James is the true definition of a multidisciplinary creative, as well has his fashion and performing arts, he also does art commissions, makes music, does photography, and hosts a podcast. Since graduating from London College of Fashion, Joshua James has decided to put more focus on his brand Joshua James London, a luxury brand with roots in contemporary menswear, art and accessories.

Like many young creatives, the early part of building a brand (especially a fashion brand) is very challenging. Since launch, he has spent the majority of his time shooting content outside, without the best quality cameras, lighting or resources. Until he found Creators House, where he was able to do his first ever studio shoot!

“Creators House has really helped me by giving me a space, and the tools I need to really elevate my creative work to another level. The tools and resources that Creators House have are professional standard and that makes a big difference”.

Joshua James talks about the importance of representation within the creative industry, and what it means to him to see a black owned organisation and an organisation that shows diversity in many ways.

“Having a space as a young creative, where you’re able to see people that look like you and have the founder of the organisation be of a similar cultural and ethnic background as yourself and be around other creatives that are likeminded and have similar experiences to you, is really important’.

He also talks about how important community and network is in the creative industry, and how through the YouTube x Creators House event that we hosted, he was able to connect with another creative and work on projects together. Something that wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Creators House creating these spaces for young creatives to network.

“What I think is great about Creators House as well is the community aspect of it, the events you guys run. As creatives it’s so important to network and meet other likeminded people”

Joshua’s biggest win this year is the launch of his website, which is something he designed and constructed totally by himself, with the help of Creators House of course. Something he is super proud of and has been working on for many years.

Feel free to check out Joshua’s website where you will find both his fashion designs and art collections.
